PC are based on Gamma 2.2 and the native raw gamma of a crt is 2.34 ,
somewhat higher for an LCD. Since you want to see on your Mac what either an
uncalibrated system or a PC/Unix/Linux user will see, then you'll want to
set up your Mac to 2.2 or more. Since all Adobe applications are quite
capable to work with any monitor gamma settings and most other applications
out there you'll be able to safely stay in 2.2 range and have a visual look
of printed pieces or web browser counterparts.

Is there a reason to use 1.8????...or should I switch to 2.2???
Gamma 1.8 could give you a longer shadow range yet 2.2 will be more
realistic to print contrast.
