Question
I have been studying "Real World Color Management" with great interest.
In the section on objective evaluation of printer profiles I have run into a
little problem: all my original measurement files are spectral data which I
then use to custom tailor profiles for specific whitepoints.
Does anyone know how I could convert that spectral data (for a given
whitepoint) to Lab in order to "close the loop" of the objective evaluation
procedure.
I can't quite shake the feeling that this procedure is a little like
measuring a room of unknown size with a 25' tape and then performing the
same set of measurements with a yardstick and comparing them for accuracy.
At the end of it all we still don't know for sure the size of the room, and
whether or not the tape or the yardstick are inaccurate, or that we are just
looking at cumulative error.
Best wishes,
Nick Wheeler
