Is this a complicated install .
(GIMP-PRINT)
The install is very simple. It works, and it's a godsend while Epson keeps
delaying its drivers.
Some caveats:
1) custom paper sizes don't work. Supposedly they had fixed it with 4.2.3,
but not. So you're stuck with the paper sizes that come predefined (at least
they're a lot!).
2) you need to install Ghostscript to print from Carbon apps: CUPS printer
drivers ("filters") are not properly used by Carbon apps, only Cocoa ones
(such as Preview or TextEdit); so if you try to print to CUPS from, say,
Illustrator, it just won't print. No error, just won't print.
Installing Ghostscript, you also get a postscript version of the printer.
That one is usable by Carbon apps such as Illustrator. It's a pity
-specially for photos- that you have to go to postscript and from there to
raster, something that with non-CUPS printer drivers (i.e. Epson ones when
they appear) is not needed.
3) Color is not very good. No provision for profiles or anything. Supposedly
the solution would be to use the applications' pre-print color transform,
available in Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.; but for some reason it
appears dimmed.
