OK.

Version 9 was the first to hand off color managed data as opposed to
device data, version 10 is nicer still.

OK.

You don't need Adobe Type Manager under OS 10 and later.
ATM is a subsetted PostScript interpreter without bitmap and color
support. From 1984 until System 6.0.5 (when Apple introduced TrueType)
only bitmap fonts were supported by the OS itself. From ATM was
released in 1990 until OS 9 it was necessary to have ATM in order to
render PostScript vector data directly to the monitor (and to
non-PostScript printers). With OS 10 the rendering of PostScript
outlines in Type 1 fonts is built into the OS itself.
Just place your Type 1, TrueType and OpenType fonts in the font
library, or place them in the internal InDesign font folder, if you
find that more convenient. InDesign is a bit more flexible about fonts
in its own folder than fonts in the system folders.

The Adobe Graphics Model built into OS 10 is a subset of the AGM
constructs in Adobe authoring software and does not support some of the
extended multi-media constructs of PDF either.
Personally, I like the fact that Preview skips annotations, but I would
beware of using Preview as soft proof for PDF destined for print for
the same reason.
