I recently purchased Colorbyte ImagePrint for my Epson 2200. I
generally like it (although the GUI could use some improvement). For
the most part, the output is great, and noticeably better than the
stock Epson profiles.
At times, however, I notice that my Photoshop 7 softproof of the
ImagePrint Profile looks great, but when I preview it in ImagePrint, it
is noticeable different, and usually for the worse (darker, somewhat
blocked shadows). I don't understand why there is a difference in the
preview between Photoshop and ImagePrint. My monitor is calibrated
with OptiCal and ImagePrint reads off that same monitor profile. I am
using OS X. When printed through ImagePrint, the image tends to more
closely match the ImagePrint preview, unfortunately. Perhaps the
Photoshop preview provides black point compensation, while Imageprint
does not?
I would like to get the prints to match the Photoshop preview. Is it
advisable to let Photoshop make the profile conversion to the
Imageprint profile and then print the image through Imageprint without
having Imageprint make the conversion? If so, how is that done? The
ImagePrint color management preferences are a bit confusing, and it is
not clear whether you can even print without ImagePrint making a
conversion. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
