I don't want to turn this into a mutual admiration love fest, but... Bruce's
targets and papers are wonderful.....hit his site and get an education and
some really useful tools..
Thank you for comments about my writing and I apologize for the aesthetics
of our site. It will soon be under major reconstruction. I'll be putting
some more papers up this year. We've done some interesting work in the
areas of ambient corrections & artifacts and optimization of monitors. The
digital control cable which we developed let's us take thousands of
measurements in all combinations of the monitor settings. We found some
interesting performance points which can explain why Manual PreCal can often
lead to unexpected (and potentially poor) results in some modern monitors.
I try to keep it light hearted when I write because the subject matter is
often so boring.... I wrote that XYZ to RGB paper for a group of students in
Europe. I tried to show that if you build a small tool set with matrix
routines, you can really do quite a lot. That same paper is used as a real
life, practical example, of linear mathematics in some AP high school
classes. I got a thank you note along with some questions from a math
teacher and she recounted how they used the paper to show the kids that
mathematics has some practical use in artistic endeavors. She appreciated
the light hearted approach and she also appreciated the worked numerical
examples.
It's notes like that and comments like yours that make the work worth the
time.
Thanks again,
TL
