Hi everyone,
I am currently using the Best 9180 Semi-matte in an Epson 9600 with
Ultrachrome inks. The gamut of Epson is larger than gloss coated ISO
12647-2 in all areas EXCEPT for the extreme shadows. ISO specifies that
black should be no lighter than a L18. The result is that normal
commercial printing conditions with rich (4C) black can reach luminance
levels as low as L6. I'm using the ECI profiles and my own internal CMYK
press profiles from an ISO conforming inkset as the comparison.
I am looking for a different media to use, however my requirement are
fairly particular. I would like the media to be as close the following
LAB values as possible: L95 A0 B3. I would like the media to have as
little optical brighteners as possible. The L value could be 93 to 97,
but the A value can be as high as 1 but can not go lower than 0. The B
value can be between -2 and -4. The Best 9180 paper already meets these
criteria but cannot achieve low enough L values with the UltraChrome
inkset. I have experimented with the Best 8180 paper, which can achieve
low enough L values, but it has a negative A value.
Any suggestions? If you are able to, please include LAB values in your
response.
Thanks,
Abe Hayhurst
