A raw file on a professional camera is is basically a dump of the sensor's
RGB Bayer matrix. The interpolation into an image is then done on the
user's computer. This means you can play around as much as you want
adjusting parameters such as white balance, color space, sharpening etc,
*after* the shot. Post-shot adjustment of white balance and exposure alone
justify the price of a pro camera rather than a consumer model, IMHO. In
practice, however, with my D1X I have always felt that the in-camera
generated Jpegs were a bit sharper. In some way the files output by
Capture are simply not as detailed as the Jpeg "slides" that come out of
the camera. I really don't know why I feel that way.
