Have you looked at the new 23" Sony SDM-P232W LCD display? It has identical
optical specs to the 23" Apple Cinema Display but costs about $500 more.
What you get for the extra are lots of controls like contrast and color
balance, dual-computer support (with a built-in A/B switch) and both digital
and analog HD15 connectors. To plug it into a Mac you'd need an adapter to
go from square to round-ended connector.
The P232W's extensive controls emulate a CRT monitor and may appeal to
anyone who doesn't use a high-quality profiling package. When profiling with
a decent software like basICColor display or the latest GretagMacbeth or
Monaco products, the best settings seem to be ...
Backlight: 100
Contrast: 70
Brightness: 50
Color: 5000K (D50)
Gamma: 1
... but optimum settings may be different on different units.
