The white glow around the cursor is the native white point of your display - the cursor drawing routines bypass the calibration curves in the graphics card - presumably for speed.
To get it back to normal-looking, adjust the controls of the CRT to get it close to your aimed white point prior to running the rest of the calibration. If you follow the ProfileMaker directions carefully it will show you a method for adjusting the RGB controls on the display for best results.
It took me a while to figure this one out!
