Lee,

In regards to the Spot Color Table feature of Onyx Postershop, as you know if the name does not match the name used in the table then Onyx will use your Input Profile as source. When adding names to the table, name them exactly the way they are named in the program, not the generic way Onyx is referring to them as "SpotColor 300 C" The ending of the name can invalidate a match in the table, some are "C" some are "CVC" and you can simply make an alias in the table to the various iterations of the endings. To match up CVC call it Pantone 300 CVC, make an alias of this to the table color called Spotcolor 300 C.

I believe you said you were using a profile supplied with PosterShop called Better RGB. I am not familiar with that RGB space, I've had good luck using Adobe RGB or something even larger in size.

If you want to confirm that the RIP is actually using the Table and not defaulting back to your input profile you can access the RIP Log from PosterShop RIP Queue v5.6.1. You will need to highlight the file name in the Queue and then a button becomes available for selecting which is called RIP Log.

If the log says that a Pantone color is not available using default color, then it means that the Table has been by-passed and is using your input profile. If it is using the Table then no message in regards to Pantone colors will be present.

You said you were attempting to hit Pantone 300, this is a bright blue and according to my Solid to Process comparison Guide this is not a color that can be matched with SWOP inks. However you are using Inkjet inks and you mileage will vary; media type and finish will also come into play.

I have had success with my Colorspan Printers hitting some of these brighter colors but sometimes I still need to do a custom build to achieve the results I'm looking for. PosterShop does have a color replacement feature that works great with vector colors, you sample the offending color and then you type in the change you want to make, for blues you are usually pulling out some of the yellow which is dirtying up the hue and adding cyan if there is still some room to move.

I checked the Onyx web site for PMS charts and they are no longer there, not that I could find anyway, also they are no longer on the 5.6 install disks. They may be on previous install disks as they used to come with more sample files then 5.6 is providing.

I have a chart that I could email you that I got from Onyx, or you might call Onyx and see if these charts are on their FTP site which they can grant you access to. The charts are free.
