Mac OS X ColorSync Utility

I stumbled on the Mac OS X ColorSync Utility in the early goings of OS
X, but I have not found a way to "register" devices that do register
themselves via their installers. This would be especially helpful for
devices I print to that do not have (and probably never will have) OS X
installers. e.g. Textronix printers and my image setter.
I can print to these devices from OS X just fine by dragging their PPDs
into the appropriate Library folder, but I don't know how to register
these devices with the ColorSynch Utility which I believe is the way
the system can use that device profile for output.
I bought the book Real World Color Management. I am still reading it
from cover to cover, but I have searched vain for this particular
answer. It does describe the ColorSynch Utility, but I can't find
anywhere that describes how to get it to recognize devices that aren't
put in by that device's installer. The Help system describes how to
assign different profiles to devices that are already assigned or
registered, but again, I can't find any way to get the ColorSync
Utility to recognize the devices in the first place.
thanks for the great forum,

Much thanks to everyone that responded to my search for an OSX profile
inspector.
There was one big surprise. Was I the only person that didn't know
about ColorSync Utility. Just double-click on the profile and it is
launched. Thanks John.
