If your incoming PDF includes the source CMYK device profile(s)
actually used to generate the CMYK objects, you will get better results
than if you apply an assumed source profile.
The manual explains the basic rule that best results for PDF (and
especially PostScript) are obtained when all incoming data is
harmonized to the same known ICC color space.
You may also use a PDF/X-3 workflow where the source is an RGB PDF
document.
