OptiCal has earned my respect, too. With the latest version (3.7.x) and my
DTP92 (too bad OptiCal won't ever support the i1 or the SoectroCam just like
ColorShopX won't ever support the i1 or the SpectroCam neither), I was able
under MacOSX 10.2.6 to measure a DeltaEab color difference of only 1.3
between the Lab value of the MacBeth ColorChecker patches as shown in the
Info palette, in Photoshop 7, and the actual measured value of these patches
as rendered by Photoshop from Lab to my monitor profile. Now, that starts to
give me some confidence in my monitor profile!
Too bad I can't individually control the guns on my Mitsu900u as the best WP
I can get through color temperature presets is about 5200K. The rest has to
be done through the VCGT tag. It works but there is nothing like hitting the
target white point right on in hardware.
Now, if I could only hit the black point right on? Depending on whose
package I use, I get either clipping in the shadows or loose too much
contrast overall? Others don't give me as severe clipping but their
grayscale is clearly too warm. I am working off a B&W gradient that I do in
a Lab document and it is easy to see what package does what to the grayscale
distribution. I guess it's a work in progress...
