Dear Adriano,

Why didn't you buy an Epson 5000 instead. This is the same
printer as

the 5500 the only difference is that it has dye inks

in it and not pigmented inks. The same is for the 7000/7500,

As far as I know Epson did not make any dye inks for the 5500,
7500 and

So I would advice you to buy an Epson Stylus Pro 5000 instead
of the

5500 and use the standard Epson inks with them, to be sure to

Unlike the 7000>7500, 9000>9500 there is a hardware difference
between the 5000>5500. The 5500 has heads + firmware that produce
finer + variable droplet sizes. All kinds of inks can be used in
the 7500/9500 including dye inks, it is also possible to drive
the 7500/9500 models with the Epson 7000/9000 drivers (not the
Status Monitor though). Clogging problems are like you will get
with the 7000/9000 but the x500 printers have some extra cleaning
modes so they can cope better with cloggs.
There's nothing against using a 5500 with dye inks but you need a
special driver to control the inklimits etc. The Epson 5500
driver extends the black generation like David mentions, that was
done to reduce metamerism. I'm not sure whether there was an
earlier version of the 5500 driver like there was for the 10000
CF, that didn't have such a long black generation. Otherwise you
will need a RIP or Gimp-print on Linux or OS X to get the
inklimit etc controls. The 5000 driver doesn't work with the 5500
AFAIK.
I've written before that the 5500 could be a very nice dye
printer with the more fadeproof 10000 type Epson dye ink. Be
careful with changing inks though as the change is often causing
the main problems with head cloggs.
BTW, I have added a CIS with 500 ml bottles (+ a waste bottle
added) on a 5000 that now is running the 10000 dye inks. Could be
done on the 5500 too. Another method is changing the 5000/5500
carts to the 9000 cart types, easy on the single bag types,
possible with some DIY work on the twin bag types.
