Here are the basics:
(1) In order to color manage named colors using custom color libraries,
the Lab source checkboxes must be activated. Theoretically, you can
activate only the checkbox for sampled images or only the checkbox for
vector graphics, but in practical PDF or PostScript production always
activate both.
(2) If you use the internal iQueue color engine, you only need to
activate (both of the two) Lab checkboxes. You do not need to select a
source Lab profile. Note that named colors are always measured under
D50 2 degree standard observer measuring conditions.
(3) If you use an external color engine, you need to activate (both of
the two) Lab checkboxes and select a loose Lab D50 profile on disk.
In other words not having to manually select a loose profile on disk in
(2) is simply a convenience. If you select one it makes no difference
(although you would not want to select a loose D65 to D50 profile).
Thanks,
Henrik
