Ray,
Thanks for the tip. that is kind of what I thought as well. I am going
to do some parallel tests tomorrow without the filter to see the
differences.

Hi Mike,
Polarizers were installed on denisitometers in an attempt to reduce the
errors when reading wet inks. All ISO and CGATS standards refer to dry
density readings. If you read wet inks you have to allow for dry
back. All
ISO and CGATS standards refer to dry density readings with no
Polarizer. If
you want to exchange density readings with others or follow standards,
I
would recommend that you not use a Polarizer.
When it comes to making profiles or making CIELab readings, I would
recommend that you leave the Polarizer in the box and not install it
on your
instrument. The UV filter is a whole different story. There have
been many
threads on this topic. See "Real World Color Management" by Chris
Murphy,
Bruce Fraser, and Fred Bunting.
If you place a Polarizer on your instrument you are introducing a big
unknown into your system. None of the profile making software, that I
know
of, were designed to be used with a Polarizer.
