Hi John,
Do you mean a 4-color process halftone or a true quadtone made up using spot
color inks?
If it's a 4/c halftone ("gray" RGB separated to CMYK?), then it should
display correctly using your "PressCMYK" profile.
If it's a true quadtone (duotone mode in Photoshop) then one thing to look
at would be spec'ing the spot colors in Lab by measuring an actual swatch
and plugging in the numbers. In the "duotone" mode where you set the colors
and curves, double-click on the ink name and type in the Lab values in the
dialog. See if that doesn't help.
It wouldn't surprise me if either the colors themselves or the overall min L
of the quadtone exceeds the ability of your display profile to simulate this
condition. Just a thought.
Based on the numbers you're going for (full range K and about a 300% TIL or
less), it might be beneficial to create a custom CMYK profile using your
orignal proof/press measurement data. You could use GCR4 in PM4 with a K
start of 0 or use the "Max K" setting for even a more extreme "4/c gray"
profile. Start with the RGB image, desaturate to gray and then convert to
CMYK using this "gray" CMYK profile.

So my question is how can your display match so well on 4/c color images
