not including many errors in Apple's default profiles for Color
StyleWriter, etc.
That's an old profile that came with a previous version of the system.
We've run all the current profiles through Profile First Aid so they
been verified and won't generate errors.
Is it safe to repair the profiles with this utility or are the errors
bogus or meaningless?
The errors aren't meaningless. Any error reported is something that's
incorrect according to the ICC spec. That said it really depends on
the profile how far off from spec it is, so it's not as simple as
saying "don't worry about it" or "delete it immediately", could be the
profile is only a little off from spec, could be it's way off.
It doesn't seem that so many vendors would be producing errors in
their profiles.
If they ran Profile First Aid on their profiles before they shipped
them, they wouldn't.
Will a change cause the profiles to act differently?
The best thing to do is to save a copy of your original profiles
somewhere that won't be found by ColorSync (meaning do NOT save
duplicates in a subfolder of any /ColorSync/Profiles/ folder). Once
that's done, run Profile First Aid to verify and repair your profiles.
