Hi Sven,
I use an Imacon 3020 and I had never encountered any problems like the one
you describe in 9 months of use ...... until two weeks ago. There were two
shots on a brochure that showed a moire pattern. I checked the original
files I gave to the designer and they were perfect, both images were 4 shot
captures so they were completely moire free ! One image was of a long glass
screen with metal blinds and the other was of a bedroom where the bedspread
went nuts ! The images were being used at around 10% of their original size.
I then was lucky enough to be able to check the designer's Quark file and
found the source of the problem .... he had brought the images down to 10%
in Quark !!! When the images were resized in Photoshop and called into Quark
at 100% there was no problem nor was there at 90%.
So Sven, if the file provided is moire free in all channels ( I cant vouch
for the H20 at it is one shot ), then ask where are the images being
resized, in Photoshop or Quark, that may well be the source of the problem.
If that does not reveal the problem, you may well have to bring the file
back down to film standards ( this may upset some !) , ie add some noise
and apply a hint of Gaussian blur, as 85 lpi is quite a coarse screen, any
in any case it may well "sharpen" the image back again.
Best have a product called Screen Proof which is meant to show up any
scrfeening problems like this, which may worth considering if this is a
constant problem.
All the best,
Barry

The problem occurs when down-sizing for newspapaer-ads(85 lpi).

They propose a soft/blur filter or a "bit-out-of-focus" to solve it.
