Subject: Ink Cost Estimating

Does anyone know how to calculate ink costs for an inkjet printer?
Nick,
are you referring to a wide format or desktop printer format? If you want
rough numbers for A4, use this link
http://www.inkjetart.com/news/ink_consume/ for a nice chart and
explanations of real world ink coverage usage, not the Manufacturers
"optimal sales coverage" tests.
Let's assume wide format. On my Image PROGRAF printer, I have the following
calculation using a typical 3' x 4' poster. On Premium Coated stock using
69% ink coverage your cost per square foot is $0.35 which calculates out to
$4.20 per print. Breakdown is media $0.18 per sq ft, ink/head $0.17 per sq
ft. If you are using Premium Super Gloss Paper the cost for a 3'x4' poster
is $7.68 which breaks down to $0.47 per sq ft. I will send you a PDF of the
total Media Analysis for the Canon printers to your e-mail address. I hope
this helps. Tim Stahl Stahl PhotoGraphics
