I guess I should explain one of the "missing" pieces in all this:
Both devices they will be printing to have "color-managed" RIPs on the
front-end, one being an Imation Matchprint RIP and the other a BestColor
RIP. I was simply contemplating using this mystery wide-gamut CMYK space as
a reference/source profile which would then convert to the destination
profile of the particular device. In essence there will be no
"application-level" color management being done (other than the initial
"CaptureRGB" to "PressCMYK" conversion), it will all be done at the RIP
level. Does that make it clearer?
So I guess I just to need to stand firm on the RGB workflow idea and
(probably) lose this job!

This doesn't make sense. What are they repurposed for? Inkjet or laser?

That's insane. It's so crazy that if it actually works (chances=slim to

It's called RGB. That's why it exists. They need to get over their RGB
