I agree wholeheartedly, David. Microsoft should own copyright to anything
written with Word, Steinway should own rights to any music played on their
pianos. And Gretag should own the profile of my own printer and display.
Yeah, sure, locally sharing the profile of my own inkjet printer, which *I
made* with an Apple computer is the same as giving someone a copy of
Yellow Submarine, which *The Beatles made*. This reminds me of an old
Adobe fonts shrinkwrap license that stated "Any media this software is
copied on becomes the property of Adobe". Hmm, I wonder if with opinions
such as these you shouldn't retrain as a lawyer, the software publishers
would sure love to hire you.

I don't believe either company really wants to be responsible for
distributing ICC profiles in this manner, which may well violate licensing
restrictions... its rather like suggesting that it would be handy if your
iPod had software to conveniently import songs from all your friends
iPods.
