Other than the bug fixes ubiquituous to software applications, the
difference between iQueue version 1 and version 1.1 is support for the
OutputIntent construct in PDF. Version 1.1 does not refer to a demo,
but to a technology update.
In the traditional world of PostScript and PDF, it is only possible to
specify the toCIE or AtoB for device to PCS conversion in the document.
The interpreter defines the second half of the conversion, fromCIE or
BtoA for the PCS to device conversion, unless you send deviceCMYK and
the interpreter is not assigning a toCIE CSA through a UseCIE command
(cf the EyeOne Color Cookbooks). Other ways of controlling the choice
of the RIP from the host application is to try to download a CRD or try
to determine which CRD of those resident in the interpreter will be
used, something you can do in the classic LaserWriter driver for
QuickDraw printing.
But you might legitimately want to work in RGB or Lab in which case the
traditional model of the RIP taking control over the fromCIE conversion
is not useful, because you don't know that the expected conversion
behaviour measured in the application color picker in CMYK mode will in
fact occur. By embedding the OutputIntent ICC CMYK profile in the PDF
document, you can do just that. Acrobat 6 is among the software tools
which support the OutputIntent construct in PDF/X-3. On
http://www.eci.org you can pick up a set of PDF tests which help you
validate that a production RIP, proofing RIP or color server supports
PDF/X-3.
