To add to my own comments from the SFDIG meeting, ProfileMaker Pro 4.1.1's
monitor module on either LCD or CRT does the following on each of its four
settings:
Default: Severely clipped shadows, an unacceptable profile (that's what I
meant by the highly technical term "broken")
Large: Clipped shadows, not as much as Default, but still an unacceptable
profile
1 Gamma: Very good, virtually indistinguishable from 3 Gammas on CRT,
slightly too-red skin tones on LCD
3 Gammas: Best of the four settings
In 4.1.5 there are only two settings, Default and Large. Default in 4.1.5 is
actually 3 Gammas under the hood, though a retuned version that is fantastic
on CRT (better than 4.1.1 3 Gammas), very, very good on LCD. Large profiles
are virtually indistinguishable from Default in 4.1.5.
Later this month I'll be reporting in detail on the work that Son Do from
Rods and Cones and I have been doing in the area of monitor calibration,
should some of you be interested. The report will be published on my site,
www.robgalbraith.com, and on www.rodsandcones.com.
-Rob
