Color Colleagues,
After a run of over 4 years in Cupertino, we have made the difficult
decision to blend our Users Group into the very successful and
informative San Francisco Digital Imaging Group (SFDIG).
Most of you have contributed to the meetings since the beginning and we
all learned a lot. We've consumed over 180 pizzas at least and drunk
gallons of sodas. We have heard nerds and pontificators and, most of
all, a long line of experts who were dedicated to advancement of
beautiful digital color. We had a good time and we were pioneers.
This past year, and even before, there's been a shift from color
management itself to its role in the larger picture, the digital
workflow. It's a time when we can purchase good profiling equipement at
low cost, and make our own profiles. Color management, in its simplest
form, is now in our homes. The application of color management in
different workflows and industries has become the focus of our
attention.
When SFDIG started, their intention was to examine the different aspects
of the digital workflow within applications, printers, operating
systems, and hardware. But when the organizers asked what the
participants wished to discuss, they were overwhelmed with requests to
talk about..... color management. Here it is again.
Our core group of Users Group meeting planners, John Zimerer, Kevin
O'Connor, James Moss, Tom Burke, Son Do and I, looked at the exciting
meetings organized by SFDIG, and noticed how many of our usual
participants attended the meetings in San Francisco in addition to ours.
We are aware of the number of regulars who traveled from San Francisco
and further North to Cupertino.
It makes sense to pass the torch to our colleagues at SFDIG who will
incorporate color management in all its current and future applications.
We invite you to attend their next meeting (for more info, email email@hidden)
and find out more about digital imaging. We will give them our
mailing list and, unless you let me know that you would like to be
removed from the list, you will receive an invitation to their next
meeting.
John, Kevin, James, Tom, Son and I thank you for your company and
participation all these years and wish you the best in your quest for
good color.
