Hi Chris,
Your first assumption is correct. Profile your 7600 (or any Epson
printer) as an RGB device when using the Epson driver. The reason is
exactly as you stated, the driver expects RGB data and does it's own
proprietary CMYK space conversion internally. If you profile it using a
CMYK target you'll be profiling an indirect 3 step process that involves
the driver converting your original CMYK space to RGB and then back to
it's proprietary CMYK space for output.

From what I can gather, the common way is to treat it as an RGB device. The
reasoning there is due to the fact that the driver expects RGB data as
input. However, that doesn't make total sense to me because what comes out
of the printer is CMYK. Since the whole point of profiling a printer is to
determine the gamut that it can actually produce, it would seem to me that
it makes more sense to profile the device as CMYK.
Any thoughts?
