No, I'm assuming that a group of files that would require the same handling
can use the same handling. If I shoot 100 images in the same scene and I
want them all handled the same way, I can do this. Obviously this can't work
in some situations and can in others. The point is, you don't have to do a
one shot at a time conversion if you don't want or need to.

It depends on the scene and what the photographer hopes to accomplish. I can
supply a list of pro's who make big, big bucks shooting this way day in and
day out and it isn't an issue for them. Most will edit the files they want
to end up with and do tweaking in Photoshop anyway. If the idea is to shoot
something and guarantee that NO editing what so ever is needed in Photoshop,
I think that's viable for some kinds of jobs (500 widgets on a white bkgnd)
and totally inappropriate for lots of other jobs. Ultimately most
photographers are going to want to tweak each and every image in Photoshop
given the time and need for ultimate control and quality. A profile or ACR
isn't ever going to guarantee this. Profiles know NOTHING about images nor
the intent of the photographers. They only know about the device.
There are plenty of software products that are intended to do automatic
corrections using "artificial intelligence" (or in many cases artificial
ignorance). Like any other auto control, your mileage may vary and
ultimately you have to look at what the auto product is doing which takes
time. You often find that what the auto software did, wasn't what you
wanted. So back to editing.
You might want to infer that a custom profile insures that you don't ever
have to look at or further correct your images but I've yet to ever see this
be the case and with the vast majority of photographers, they fully intend
to tweak. The profile might get you closer (I'll buy that) but if the idea
is that a profile in every way insure you've nailed the image, I'm not
buying that.
