not quite sure what you mean here ... guess you meant 'new' surface material. Anyway ... not trying to be pedantic, but I'm curious how we're supposed to know about viewing angle, when for example, Apple and Eizo on their respective websites, cite 170 degrees as their hardware's viewing angle (Cinema Displays and Eizo CG21). I've noticed that lots of other manufacturers cite the same figures for TFTs and I assumed that this is because they all come from the same factory, or have very similar fabrication processes. Am I wrong here?
I've been talking with Eizo technical folks and there are several technical differences of merit with the Eizo displays.
Technically the viewing "angle" is the same but the way the "light valves" work is different. Obviously I'm paraphrasing heavily here but the simplified description is that Eizo has found a way of orienting the light valves so that any color shifting is minimized across the 170 degrees. This means that a neutral gradient looks neutral from all available viewing angles, not just straight in front. I have seen the displays and it is true - they are remarkable.
The 10-bit difference is in the calibration. As the included software takes advantage of the 10-bit calibration in the display, it (effectively) oversamples the graphics card's 8-bit calibration, fine tuning it.
The two technical differences make for a remarkable display. I'm pretty certain that I am leaving something out, but that's what I've seen so far. Not cheap but worth it for some users.

Steve
