The EyeOne Photo is an RGB-only package, so it may or may not meet your
expectations for the graphic design and proofing end of things. The most
affordable package that would have a full set of CMYK controls would be
ColorVision's MasterSuite Spectro. But unless you use a RIP for your
inkjets, you won't have much use for CMYK features. In that case the EyeOne
Photo would do the trick, though it would still cost considerably more than
ColorVision's MasterSuite Spectro without offering CMYK functions; even the
EyeOne Designer Edition with is double the cost of the Photo version,
doesn't have as comprehensive CMYK features as the ColorVision software. Any
of these choices include monitor calibration.
If the street price of $899 for the MasterSuite Spectro is still to much for
your budget, then the $499 PrintFIX/SpdyerPRO bundle would be worth
considering. This would build fast RGB profiles for both your inkjets, as
well as calibrating your monitor. PrintFIX profiles are intended largely for
photo printing use, buth they can be presed into service for a bit of
graphic design use as well, as long as you understand that the accuracy of
the proofing won't be up to spectro-built profile levels. Below that level,
you would really need to look at getting printer profiles built for you, and
buying monitor calibration seperately.

I'm driving the Photo 1280 with Epson's Stylus RIP. I just send RGB data to
the Photo 2200. The Spyder MasterSuite sounds pretty good, but I have three
questions:
1. I've heard some bad things about the Spyder - are there legitimate
concerns about the Spyder as areliable device?
2. Does anyone know of any good Canadian-based retailers for
Colorvision products?
3. Any known issues when using StylusRIP?
On a related topic, for my fine art work, I've been musing over ImagePrint
for use with the Photo 2200. Am I likely to reap any real benefit from using
this RIP (and the apparently very good pre-made profiles for the 2200) and
monitor-only calibration/profiling in comparison with building my own
printer profiles with MasterSuite (or comparable)?
Thanks to everyone thus far for their input.
Matt
