Hi David,
There's a couple of things to keep in mind when using the editor.
1) Rendering intent. By default, the editor launches with the "perceptual"
tables active by default. Any edits you make will be visible only when
performing a perceptual transformation. If you are using colorimetric
(either relative or absolute), use the "colorimetric" option in the
rendering intent drop-down menu.
2) Forward/Inverse. The inverse options affect the way the profile
"separates" the Lab data into device (RGB, CMYK) data. Changes made to the
inverse table will affect the way your images print, but will not alter the
relation ship between the print and the soft proof. In other words, however
you "move" the print, the screen will follow.
Conversely, the forward option affects the way image data previews in
Photoshop and will NOT affect the way the image prints. In other words, the
forward tables WILL change the relationship between the print and soft
proof. Editing these tables will allow users to fine tune how Photoshop
presents image color, allowing greater soft proofing accuracy. It should
also be noted that Photoshop only uses the Colorimetric forward table when
sending color data to the monitor. If you want to affect your "preview" in
Photoshop, make sure you edit the colorimetric forward table.
As long as you're editing the right tables, you should absolutely see the
results in your workflow. Sometimes applications, RIPs, and operating
systems don't talk like you think they would. However, once you get to the
bottom of things (and surprisingly enough, their is almost always a
reasonable explanation for why things work the way they do), you should be
able to very precisely control your process with the tools you have. If you
have further questions or issues, please feel free to contact tech support
at any time.
Best regards,
Marc
