This isn't formal survey data, but four to five years ago I used to ask
almost every graphic designer/prepress person I met if they hardware
calibrated
their monitor. The most common answer was "I don't understand the question"...
and when I asked this of photographers, I often got "why do I need a monitor?"
as a response.
Today, with both groups, its rather like asking if they floss thier teeth:
either they do, or they look guilty and admit that they don't, but know that
they should. So, at least on the monitor side of things, the educational
process
has been a success... of course I have to add that the many of them also don't
have a generic term in their vocabulary for the item used to calibrate
monitors, instead they use the proprietary brand name "Spyder" for it, rather
like
not knowing what else to call Scotch Tape...
