Sid,
what is the RIP used to print with the DC-12 an 7700?
Is it color managed?
TIA, gariba.

The 7700 is great as long as an operator keeps his eyes on it,
checking for
color drift a couple of times a day and re-calibrating to neutrals.
It's
pretty much a manual process with lots of eyeballing color, though you
can
setup a workflow that uses densitometer readings to help keep
re-calibration fairly consistent. But it still ends up being subjective
rather than objective.
The DC-12 on the other hand is pretty much automated. You can
re-calibrate
off the glass and keep everything within 2-3 dE all the time. You can
also
attach a densitometer for even better calibration, though I have been
unable to see any noticeable visual difference. And if the end-user
can't
see the difference why waste the time & money? The prints I'm making
today
can't be distinguished from the ones made months ago.
The DC12 is a LOT more expensive, but this is one case where you get
what
you pay for. That said, I would still want to test every other laser
printer I could get my hands on before signing that lease. But from my
personal experience the DC12 has given good, consistent color and
reliable
mechanical service.
