I thought IQueue was broken!
I have a PDF with 4 CMYK elements (3 images, 1 vector) and 1 grayscale
image. The four CMYK images are tagged with the same CMYK profile. The
grayscale is untagged.
I have discovered that IQueue wll spit this pdf back out, exactly as it went
in - having done no color transforms, as long as the grayscale image is in
the file and is untagged. I know the CMYK source profile for the document
but what of the grayscale? How am I suppoded to tag it? I tried Logo's
Grayscale 1.0.icc and well... I don't think that is it. (the grayscale
image turned out almost all white)
How do you normalize a mixed space pdf with respect to the grayscale
content? All other spaces get converted into the destination space when I
use LAB, RGB, etc.
I am trying to convert this file into ONE CMYK space, which is the source
profile for a Device Link.
My guess is that I should let IQueue process the file WITHOUT embedding the
destination profile (since the Device Link will ignore it, anyway; although
I like to embed so I can SEE that was done.) and leaving the grayscale color
model unchecked - just passing the grayscale thur. Yes? Then the file will
say CMYK (no tag but converted to destination space) and GRAYSCALE (no tag
and unchanged).
One odd experience is that the vector element is a 10 step grayscale and 90%
falls off the wagon by turning dirty brown. Just before I broke down to
build another profile, I discovered that 'black point compensation' needed
to be turned off for vector. That fixed the 90% black.
The MAJOR point is how to tag untagged grayscale when you KNOW the document
CMYK space but not the Grayscale space. (I somehow feel like grayscale gets
rendered properly as long as the output device is linearized. Am I way off?)
