I really do not want to add to the fuel of this fire but I feel it necessary to clear some things up.....

Because a device link is device dependent in and device dependent out and thus takes the numbers in the data space while disregarding their color appearance,
not true. just because a device link profile does not contain appearance information (which I think it should) does NOT mean that it works with complete disregard to appearance. Most device links are "hard coded" transforms that were built with appearance-based device profiles. The transforms contained in the link are appearance based.

and because a device link either does not contain correct metadata about the names of the device profiles in the original concatenation written into the Profile Sequence tag or does not contain the Profile Sequence tag at all, then it follows that a device link is as caring of precision conversion as a T Rex is of carving meat.
also not true. Again, just because the "formation data" was not written to the device link, does no mean the device link is any less precise. A device link should be just as precise as the in-RAM transform is represents and, in fact, may be more accurate (true to the intended desire of the user). The problem of profile building tools not correctly filling out tag information or leaving out required tags is a real concern. A totally different topic but a real concern...

Because a device link will literally tear into anything in sight, then if you place it in front of the page design you get blind (double) conversions for objects in the data space of the first data space in the link sequence (and not for objects in other data spaces whether untagged or tagged with ICC device profiles or PostScript Color Space Arrays).
This is misleading. ANY ICC profile transformation will blindly convert data it is sent (assuming it is in the right color model - RGB/CMYK, etc).
It seems that the concern you have is more about the implementation of device link profiles in applications and color servers.
In reference to this I agree. It would be much clearer if iQueue could be configured to ensure the conversion (or non-conversion) of file elements prior to the application of device links. This is an implementation issue at the application / color server level ONLY.

Because a device link will ignore device to PCS information and will not remap device values to PCS, Open File dialogs will not be able to show a preview of the disk-based data and after the CMM has completed its calculation the RAM-based object cannot be displayed on the studio monitor or studio printer.
This is handled by the stipulation in the ICC spec that device links not be embedded in image files. This point is a non-issue unless someone breaks the spec elsewhere (and I have yet to see this one happen).

Because a device link will ignore the AtoBx backward rendering information in ICC device profiles (and the ToCIE forward rendering information in PostScript Color Space Arrays) CIEBased which includes ICCBased is ignored in PDF 1.3+ and CIEBased is ignored in PostScript which is to say that you get the Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
this statement makes no sense.

turning this into a regional battle is doing little to bolster your case.....
