Thank you for your answer though the anomaly that I am describing is a
result of real conversions and not simply read out from the info pallet or
from the colour picker.
Try this
Create patch RGB 2, 2, 2 in Adobe 1998
Create a second patch RGB 9,9,9
Convert file to LAB ( with black compensation and no dither)
If you have set your info pallet to RVB and Lab you will notice a phantom
RGB reading of 4,4,4, for the 2, 2,2, patch and 10, 10,10 for the 9,9,9,
patch but this is simply a read-out bug because there is no RGB. However it
is interesting to note that the programme is picking up a distinction
between the two patches, which are now both physically transformed into Lab
1,0,0.
Now convert the file to any other mode or space you so desire and the two
patches return with a different RGB code. For example try the following
Using relative and black point compensation
Apple RGB 2, 3, 4, and 7,7, 9.
Colormatch 1,1,2, and 4,4,5
Euroscale coated 93,79,77,87 and 92,77,75,85
Greygamma 2.2 99% and 97%
Epson Pro CF 10000 glossy film 28,30,34 and 30, 21 , 35
Etc.
I am not really so caught up in the little misadventures or the clairvoyance
of the Lab code, but this phenomenon what ever it is at the heart of a much
larger and deeply frustrating problem I am having. Any help you can offer
will be appreciated.
thank you
J swift
