I can personally recommend ChroMix for printer profiling. Excellent service.

What impressed me was that Steve was prepared to go through several profiling cycles until I was
happy with the result. With an Epson printer (I had a 1200) this can be useful as they can be
difficult to profile.

A good quality printer profile is money well spent and will pay for itself. If you've got a good
profile for your monitor (the first requirement) then you'll get accurate soft proofs.

Make sure you allow the printed target to dry for 24 hours before sending it in to ChroMix. Although
dry to the touch it can take quite a long time for the colours to stabilise.

HTH
