BEST pre v5 RIPs were all based on Ghostscript, as you surely remember. So,
there is nothing "inferior" not to be based on true-blue Adobe although it's
the ultimate peace of mind assurance. I've alwaus believed that myself.

In my opinion, they swithched because EFI, which bought BEST, was already
shopping at the Adobe cafeteria.
And now, with all the new transparency + flattening buzz around Illustrator
and, more importantly, InDesign, people are going back to Adobe. I know I'd
rather use a true-blue v3015+ Adobe PostScript 3 RIP because there are more
than one way to flatten a file with transparency. Whereas flattening a PDF
1.4+ with a Adobe CPSI is the sure way to have a uniform way of going about
it.
