Hi Graeme
I believe the conversion in GMG CAMFlow is based on a proprietary
'CMM' from
GMG, rather then ICC based. The same technology as their 'devise link'
profiles in their colour rip?
Yes you are quite correct. Camflow utilises the same '4-d' colour
conversion engine that runs the colorproof modules.
They say, I believe that this engine is based on many more reference
points
then an ICC based CMM.
Again, correct . Many more points, thus 'hopefully' a better
conversion. Smoother etc.
But for now we are finding that the GMG conversions, although beautiful
and smooth, the colours are not to our 'liking'
Our icc conversions are far closer to the original RGB 'visually'
Maybe GMG or one of their dealers can comment. However if this was an
icc
based issue I guess one would look first at the rendering intent. So
does
the GMG engine offer this control over out of gamut colours?
The GMG color conversion is a slight mystery atm. There is definitely
NOT any options to define rendering intent, black point compensation
etc. as as you say, this is not an icc conversion and so not relevant.
I am awaiting a reply from GMG tomorrow about the whole issue and will
post their comments on list.
