Tawp of the season to all of yuz.
Little bit on the low end of color management for some of you but I have a lot of people here using HP Deskjet and Officejet series printers in their offices and homes, including myself (note: Not looking for print and proof perfection from these devices). And I think some of these issues were raised somewhere back in time, but... Just a few puzzlers.
1.
I used an HP All-in-one 1215 printer, copier, scanner while in China. When installed the device appears in the Colorsync Utility as HP 900 Series Deskjet with a default factory profile called djSeriesRGB.icc stored in:
(/Library/Printers/hp/deskjet/hpdjPM.plugin/Contents/Resources/djSeriesRGB.icc)
I am now in Thailand using an HP 1315 All-in-one. Under Colorsync Utility it shows up under Printers in the side menu but, other than an ID Number, it registers no other information. No Factory Profile, no options for choosing any Other.
The older model printer allows me to choose a custom or Other profile. The new printer does not.
Is this an HP thing? Maybe. But all my camera devices listed always list Generic as the Factory Profile even though this is incorrect.
I assume Colorsync is assuming Generic RGB for this printer as well when I know the Factory should be some form of HP's sRGB standard.
I would be very interested in any information that allows one (me) to change the Factory Profile to a more realistic default.
Has anyone else out there had devices register no information under the ColorSync Utility? Similar situations?
Any input is appreciated.
2.
I'm innocently printing away under OSX 2.8 (with no rip) and I can't help but notice that everything going out the CUPs printing pipeline ends up in Generic RGB, so I have to convert everything to Generic before sending it down the pipe.
Do I really have to convert everything to Generic RGB to get it through the CUPS print pipeline?
I'm a Rip/postscript guy so please excuse my ignorance, but wasn't this issue raised a while back. Can't seem to find it in the Archives.
TIA
Have a merry merry ;0)
