Dear friends,
I have read very complimentary comments on ColorEyes Display, the latest
monitor calibration/profiling software from Integrated Color Corp. (see more
at <http://www.integrated-color.com/cedisplay/supporteddevices.html>). There
is an email thread about it on Rob Galbraith's site
(<http://www.robgalbraith.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=282480&pag
e=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=&fpart=all&vc=1>), but the people who replied went
somewhat off topic, instead of offering a specific opinion on this specific
software. Also, a request for opinions on the subject was posted on this
forum by Cody Thomas on Dec. 11, but only Andrew Rodney replied, and very
briefly.
So, I still have a few questions, the response to which will help guide my
decision on whether or not to purchase a copy of ColorEyes Display:
1) If any of you has already used it, are the resulting monitor profiles
superior to other packages on the market which you have used previously? If
so, how superior: a little, a lot?
2) On the Integrated Color Corp. site, they strongly stress that the results
will be much better if their software is used in conjunction with the X-Rite
DTP-94 colorimeter (which, correct me if I am mistaken, I believe is another
name for the Monaco Optix XR), although it will also work with other
instruments, including the EyeOne family of devices (Display, Display 2 and
Pro). Are the results really visibly superior with the Optix XR, compared to
the EyeOne? That is relevant to me because I already own the EyeOne, but
I.C.C. is offering a bundle of the ColorEyes Display plus a 3-seat license
AND the Optix XR for $325, which sounds like a good deal to me, if the
results are as good as they claim.
3) ColorEyes Display is DDC-compliant (DDC = Display Data Channel, which
means that it is capable of controlling directly the video signals which
form the images on the monitor, not just the video card's Look-Up Tables).
Does that mean anything to owners of Apple Cinema Displays? Are ACDs at all
DDC-compliant? Is DDC a feature that requires a specific ADDITIONAL set of
hardware connections (like I know the Eizo ColorEdge has)?
I hope to receive a few replies, so that I can make an informed decision.
Thank you.
