Dear readers,
I'm trying to solve one of my customers problem. He has 3 Xerox copiers
(DocuColor 12, DocuColor 2060 and DocuColor 6060 and all of them are driven
by Efi Fiery) and his problem is the color difference between these
printers. All printers are using default profiles from Efi.
When customer prints same testfile to all printers, DC12 prints as expected.
But output from DC2060 is reddish and DC6060 print a little greenish. This
happens even we have same input and simulation profiles in color setup and
we have calibrated all of them just before printing the testfile. Even same
paper is used Ala units are services reqularly and according the operators,
printers are in their "average" condition (developers etc...).
As a solution I tried to update the profiles in all three machines. Started
with DC12 and everything went by the book, nice graybalance and output was
very close to what I expected. I used the same method to DC2060 and output
was bluish-greenish (particularly in shadows). Unfortenately I couldn't try
with DC6060 as it broke just before printing the target.
Here is the procedure I used :
1. Linearize printer (using X-Rite DTP-32)
2. Set simulation to "none"
3. Print test file to check graybalance (simple 0-100% color ramps)
4. Print target immidiately after evaluating graybalance (using Import Job
in Fiery command station)
5. Measure target with EyeOne and ProfileMaker 4.1.5 pro
6. Create profile : maxink 260%, GCR max, Black start 5 and Kmax 100, paper
gray plus (just like recommended in "Real World Colormanagement").
7. Set profile as output profile for Fiery
8. Print same test file now using the new profile as output profile.
After this disappointing result with 2060, I double checked my procedure and
did everything again. Same result. DC12 works fine, DC2060 print
bluish-greenish shadows. I contacted local Xerox support and he confirmed my
procdure. Also contacted company where I bought my profiling gear. Settings
and procedure is correct, but no success.
After third try and trible checking everything I contacted Xerox European
support in Dublin and after 1.5 hours they very kindly told me that as far
they know, my procedure is correct. Also support told me that Efi offers
several different ways to profile copiers, depending who you ask. Someone
tells you to do that and someone tells you to do the other thing.
I'm no blaming these guys not supporting me, as everybody is as puzzled as I
am. Therefore I ask you, dear list readers, if you have experienced
something like I did and how did you solve the problem?
Thanks in advance for you help and comments.
