Sorry if this is off topic , but I am trying to include this camera
into an ICC workflow but am having a technical issue with it first.
I hope some digital camera users out there may be able to shed some
light on a problem I am having with a Nikon 5700 digital shooting under
mixed lighting.
The scenario is this.
A pharmacist has a setup for photographing babies in two different
locations. he has identical cameras and flashes in each location. At
one location he consistently gets a red cast through his images.
If he swaps cameras, he still gets a red cast at the same location and
decent results from the other location. This leads me to believe it is
a problem with the overhead diffused fluoro lights.
I have set the camera white balance to Nikon Speedlight and run it at a
shutter speed of 125th, approx. f5.3. The sensitivity is at equiv. ISO
100. In the film world this would be adequate to remove any mixed
lighting effects and use only strobe for exposure.
I talked to the Nikon distributor in Australia and asked if the CCDs in
these cameras are particularly sensitive to Fluoro lighting. He said
his experience was yes, but had nothing to back it up.
The pharmacist wants a completely hands off approach so does not want
to edit images in his workflow, although I can set up a batch in Nikon
Capture to remove the cast if required and tag the image for output.
Has anyone else had any issues with CCD sensitivity and fluros? I am
going to try higher shutter speeds as a first step but am curious if
this is a common problem with CCDs.
Thanks
Simon
