Matching color between two digicams

  • Subject: Matching color between two digicams

I photographed a wedding with a Canon 1Ds. My backup camera was a Canon
D60. Not ideal, I know, but the deed is done.

During the 'altar returns', the 1Ds 'hung' and couldn't get it going again
quickly. So, I switched to the D60 to keep things going smoothly. It was
setup identical (same off camera flash/lens/settings, etc.). After my
assistant worked with the 1Ds for a bit, I was able to return to using it
~30 images later.

I don't use the RAW format, btw. High res JPEG has always been enough
resolution from these cameras for us to produce the print sizes needed.

Of course, it ends up that I have an order that has print(s) ordered from
the last image from the 1Ds, and the first image from the D60.

Even with the lighting being the same, the two images obviously have
different 'color casts'.

What is the best way in Photoshop 'after the fact' to manage the color
between the two images correctly? For example, the back wall on both images
was your typical 'off white/semi-beige' sheetrock color. On one of the
images, it is as expected. On the other, it is more 'grey' than beige. I
can post examples if need be.

I've tried the typical adjustment layers with 'curves' as well as 'color
balance' layers that I use for our various workflows (setting white points,
grey points, using 'soft proofing' with our various output profiles, etc.)
but this color problem is a bit more than I've ever had to deal with.

If it helps, we are calibrated pretty nicely using much of the knowledge
gained here from lurking (and by reading some of your books :-). Except
obviously we're not using camera profiling, as we've seen those discussions
on this list :-).

Any help greatly appreciated.
