I was thinking about this very point, how to derive the SID from a Lab value
in a profile. I was thinking that this could be done plain empirically by
comparing some existing printed patches of solid. I think the hue doesn't
realy matter here because all we're after a log reflectance? So if I take
TR-001 100% cyan which is L*=56 then it's just a matter of going through my
litho printed samples of 100% cyan and find the one that yields an L* of
about that value and read its corresponding density. Would that be valid? As
a matter of fact couldn't one find a statistical relationship between L* and
Optical Density? It may not be linear but I'm sure it would have a high R2.
