Colorsync beginner, simple answers ?

Hi,

I've spend much time reading on the web about color management and failed to find a simple answer to my questions. I guess most sources go far beyond my needs, and that no "one click" solution really exists yet. I'll first explain what I want to do and understand so far, then my questions will follow.

I only need simple color management solution, and I thought ColorSync would be simple to set up. The main reason why I favor ColorSync is that it seem to offer control for many applications, and I'd prefer this rather than sticking with Photoshop only. I use a Canon Powershot camera, I usually import photos using iPhoto, make some corrections in Photoshop, and I now have an Epson Stylus Photo R300 to print my photos. As I said, I'd prefer to use ColorSync manage colors (in the print driver as well), so I'd be able to print from Photoshop, iPhoto or some other graphic application with no headache. ColorSync utility suggest that I can add a profile for photos from my camera (Camera RGB Profile.icc), and that I have different profiles for the Epson printer, according to the type of paper I use (but I can't seem to be able to change the profile used by the printer).

Here are my questions :
- Is iPhoto 4 supposed to embedded my camera color profile in imported photos as the CS utility suggests ?
- If I import using the printer's card reader, will the good profile be assigned (will it recognise the camera) ?
- When printing, how can I modify the paper profile I want to use ? Is it done with Quartz filters, and with a preview, can I soft proof the result ?
- If set up ColorSync, can I use it with no further modification in Photoshop, and get a good (yet simple) color management from Photoshop ?

Thanks,
Fridiric
