I've been down the same path as Alan so I can echo his advice, and it has
little to do with scanners vs. spectros for reading patches. Most users buy
inkjets to make prints, not to spend their time making profiles. Even with
the entry level spectro packages it can be time consuming and frustrating if
you don't have experience. By all means get a Spyder or Optix to calibrate
and profile your display, but unless you're someone that just likes to
tinker, let www.chromix.com or one of the other online profiling sources
make your output profiles for you.
