Hi Ben
The first thing I would recommend is getting your screen profiled. You can
pick up good quality monitor profiling solutions for around the #200 mark.
The Proofmaster Rip and HP10PS could get a bit more complex. Firstly did the
Proofmaster come with any generic profiles or colour set ups? If so use
these as a starting point, but you may want to consider getting a custom
profile made. I must say that I usually have better results with Epsons than
HPs. The important thing would be to have the input CMYK and RGB of the RIP
matched with your Photoshop working spaces.
This brings us to application settings. A good base set up for Photoshop is
Europe Pre-Press Defaults, available under Colour Settings. I have written a
PDF on Photoshop colour management, contact me off list if you want me to
send it to you.
As far as Freehand is concerned I can't say that I really have much
confidence in the colour management features, it is possible to set things
up but you may better off leaving the colour management off. Again contact
me off list and I can talk you through the different options.
Regards
Rob Griffith
