I understand you frustration because I, too, have an 3000 and Panther. So,
unless your not prepared to use Epson's own OSX compatible driver (which,
incidently, they took two years to deliver<?!>) your other choice seems to
be Gimp-Print. Which is free. Or you could find yourself an older Powerbook
G3 and run the RIP under OS9 on that machine and print to it from your
Panther Mac. Or, you could get yourself ImagePrint for OSX, which I have not
been able to run in demo under Panther, but that's another story. I know
Andrew and some others, here, have had good success with IP under Panther.
