Greetings all,
We use the Imation CFM engine to convert rgb and cmyk images to
GCR/cmyk. OS 9, pshop 6 0r 7. Is there any way we can use this CMM
in Os X 10.3.2 with pshop cs?
Not unless it gets rewritten specifically for OS X. I believe this unit
of Imation is now part of the Kodak Polychrome Graphics division. I
would ask them what their plans are.
No matter what engine we use in OS X, with the same destination
profile we use in OS 9, we don't get a change in the image values.
This was also the case in OS 9 by the way. The Imation CFM does a
great job of GCR.
Conventional CMMs will cause a null transform (nothing happens) when
the source and destination profiles are the same. The Imation CMM, on
the other hand, would rebuild its own "device link" type of profile
even if source and destination were the same, allowing you to specify
custom GCR preferences and have them applied to the image.
In a way, it was ahead of its time, in an age when prepress/printers
were far more apt to consider color management really bad voodoo. I
think today it would be more well received, but I don't know if it
would be enough to justify redevelopment.
